The Abbotsford, British Columbia, community was shaken Friday afternoon following a fatal shooting inside a west Abbotsford residence, an incident that has drawn renewed attention to ongoing gang-related violence in the region. Police confirmed the victim was Navpreet Dhaliwal, a man long known to law enforcement and previously identified as being connected to B.C.โs organized crime conflict.

Abbotsford Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire at a home in the 3200 block of Siskin Drive shortly after 12:35 p.m., according to police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker. When officers entered the residence, they located a man suffering from critical injuries. Emergency efforts were made at the scene, but the individual could not be saved.
Sgt. Walker stated that the residence was familiar to police and confirmed the victim had extensive ties to gang activity in the Lower Mainland. Sources later identified the individual as Dhaliwal, who had previously been the subject of a public safety warning issued by Abbotsford police in August 2024.
That warning followed Dhaliwalโs release on bail while awaiting trial on serious criminal charges. Police at the time cautioned that Dhaliwal and another Abbotsford man, Anmol Sandhu, posed a significant risk to public safety. Both were planning to reside in west Abbotsford, prompting concern among investigators and community members alike.
Dhaliwal and Sandhu became key figures in a large-scale drug trafficking investigation launched in late 2022. During that probe, officers executed multiple search warrants at properties in Abbotsford and Surrey, seizing several kilograms of illicit substances, including fentanyl and cocaine, along with large amounts of cash and firearms. The evidence gathered during that investigation led police to initiate Project High Table, a focused operation examining allegations that the two men were involved in planning a targeted killing.
